How does the DCP Annual Conference differ from the Society Annual Conference?
The DCP Conference focuses on research and practice in clinical psychology, unlike the Society's Annual Conference which covers all types of academic and applied psychology. The DCP Conference will take place in London on an Annual basis.
Who organises the DCP conference in 2009?
The 2009 Conference is being organised by the DCP Conference Subcommittee with the assistance of the Society Conference Office and the DCP Communications Officer.
The committee chairperson is Drs Hildegard Schakel and the vice-chair is Dr Anja Wittkowski
I have done a piece of research I want to disseminate. Can I present this at the DCP conference?
Yes, you can submit your research as part of a symposium, a poster or as an individual paper. Please note that, where oral presentations are concerned, priority will be given to symposia.
Shortly we will be posting our Call for Papers page, showing submission guidelines and access to the on-line submission system.
Who can attend the DCP conference?
Anyone interest in clinical psychology can attend the DCP Annual Conference.
People who are not members of the Division of Clinical Psychology or the British Psychological Society are welcome, but we do have reduced rates for DCP members.
How do I register for the conference?
Please visit the Registration page on this website.
If you have any questions about the registration process, please send an e-mail to Steve Whalley or Mandy Lindsay in the Society's Conference Office.
How can I submit a presentation?
When the Call for Papers is issued, please visit that page and download the submission guidelines and form.
Are there any concessionary rates?
The Conference is subsidised by the Division. We therefore offer a reduced registration fee to members of the DCP.
Unfortunately, we are unable to offer further concessions, but we believe the Conference offers good value for money and compares well with other psychology conferences.
Who can join the Division of Clincial Psychology?
Any Graduate Member of the British Psychological Society with an interest in clinical psychology you can join the DCP as a General Member. Qualified clinical psychologists, psychology assistants and psychologists in clinical training can join at the appropriate grade.
DCP membership fees
Full £85
Full (First two years after qualification) £32
In-Training £16
General £21
Psychology Assistants £16
Please request a DCP Information and Application booklet by e-mail or calling the DCP on 0116 252 9515.
How do I get to the venue of the DCP conference?
The Congress Centre is located in the heart of London. It is well situated for transport, hotels, good restaurants, Covent Garden, Theatreland and, of course, Oxford Street and Covent Garden for Christmas shopping.
The nearest Underground Station is Tottenham Court Road - the Congress Centre is a short walk from Exit 3. Holborn Underground Station is also nearby. Alternatively, the Congress Centre is a short bus ride from Euston Station (Buses 59, 68, 91) The Congress Centre website has a map showing its location. It is on the south side of Great Russell Street, next door to the Jury's Hotel.
Where can I book accommodation?
The Congress Centre has several hotels right on the doorstep. Please visit our Accommodation page to see a selection of what is available. Further links are available from our Visiting London page.
Please note that all bookings must be made directly with the hotels themselves.
Is there anything of interest to visit while I am in London for the conference?
The British Museum is on Great Russell Street, a few minutes walk from the Congress Centre, and there are plenty of restaurants, shops and West End theatres in the vicinity of the Congress Centre.
See our Visiting London page for links to all the information you need on visitor attractions.
You may also find the Transport for London Journey Planner useful.
I find it difficult to get to the conference in time for 9.00am - why not start later? We want to make the best possible use of resources and give delegates value for their registration fee. It would be wasteful to hire a venue and not make the fullest use of it. For anyone who prefers to arrive late it is easy to enter unobtrusively by doors at the rear of the lecture rooms.
The venue is very professional-looking - couldn't we save money by using a cheaper venue? Using well-equipped venue with good technical and catering services enables the Conference Committee to focus its energy on the programme content. We do consider all options carefully when making financial decisions.
Why is the conference in London? By holding the conference in the same place we save time and money on organisational work. Of all the possible locations in the UK, London is the city with the greatest number of transport links and therefore easier to get to. Delegates feedback also suggests London is a popular location. These benefits greatly outweigh any disadvantages.
