How does the DCP Annual Conference differ from the Society Annual Conference?
The DCP Conference focuses on research and practice in clinical psychology, unlike the Society's Annual Conference which covers all types of academic and applied psychology.

Who organises the DCP conference
The 2011 Conference is being organised by the DCP Conference Subcommittee with the assistance of the Society Conference Office, BPS Conferences and the DCP Communications Officer. The Conference committee chairperson is Dr Jennifer Unwin.

I have done a piece of research I want to disseminate. Can I present this at the DCP conference?
Yes, you can submit your research as part of a symposium, a poster or as an individual paper. Please note that, where oral presentations are concerned, priority will be given to symposia.

Unfortunately we have stopped taking submissions for the 2011 event. If you would like to submit to the 2012 conference, please email dcpconf@bps.org.uk and we will contact you when submissions open. The 2012 conference will take place from 5-7 December at the University of Oxford.

Who can attend the DCP conference?
Anyone interested in clinical psychology can attend the DCP Annual Conference. People who are not members of the Division of Clinical Psychology or the British Psychological Society are welcome, but we do have reduced rates for DCP members.

How can I submit a presentation?

Are there any concessionary rates?
We are now offering significant concession rates for pre-qualified and newly qualified BPS members to attend the conference. Visit the registation page for more details.

Do speakers have to pay registration fees?

All those submitting through the online submission system who have their papers and posters accepted will have to register for at least that day of the conference. All speakers must register by 20th October 2011.

Who can join the Division of Clincial Psychology?
Any Graduate Member of the British Psychological Society with an interest in clinical psychology you can join the DCP as a General Member. Qualified clinical psychologists, psychology assistants and psychologists in clinical training can join at the appropriate grade.

How do I get to the venue of the DCP conference?
The Holiday Inn is located in the heart of Birmingham, a short walk from Birmingham New Street train station.
It is well situated for transport, good restaurants, and of course great shops in the Bullring for Christmas shopping.

Where can I book accommodation?
This year you can book accomodation at the Holiday Inn for £90 per night (B&B). We are no longer taking bookings through the office, however please visit the Hotel Website to book directly online.

I find it difficult to get to the conference in time for 9.00am - why not start later? We want to make the best possible use of resources and give delegates value for their registration fee. It would be wasteful to hire a venue and not make the fullest use of it. For anyone who prefers to arrive late it is easy to enter unobtrusively by doors at the rear of the rooms.

The Hotel looks very expensive- couldn't we save money by using a cheaper venue? Using a well-equipped venue with good technical and catering services allows the Conference Committee to focus its energy on the programme content. The Lowry Hotel in 2010 was a great venue and we want to continue this standard.

If I am unable to attend the conference at the last minute can I have a refund of my registration fee? Unfortunately this is not possible because we depend on the income from registration fees to pay all our costs. The budget is very tight and we do not make a profit. If you are concerned about unanticipated crises preventing your attendance, it may be worth checking your usual travel insurance.
